Carved and tinted reclaimed Chinese elmwood sideboard, 2013

In June 2013 I started carving patterns on another piece in the series of reclaimed Chinese elmwood furniture. The long and wide shape of the sideboard generated inspiration to use Calgary’s Bow River as a theme, including images of some of its native species, such as the cutthroat trout.

It was very ironic, that during this time, Calgary experienced one of the worst floods of the Bow River in recorded history.
